Objectives:
In order to address these issues and meet our goals HLPI plans to focus on 3 main objectives.

1. By 08/2008, to increase production and consumption of healthy locally produced food.

2. By 8/2008, to increase knowledge about health and nutrition

3. By 8/2008, to increase physical activity

The strategies used to promote these objectives will initially focus on:

a. Health communication

b. Community based intervention and facilitation

c. Health/Institutional/Food System

We are working with project staff from the Marshall Islands Ministry of Health and Environment, and the Land Grant institutions in American Samoa, Chuuk (Federated States of Micronesia), Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas, Guam, Hawaii and Palau in a partnership with ADAP (Agricultural Development in the American Pacific).

Additional funding for a nutrition assessment and surveillance project has been secured through CDC, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Center for Disaster and Humanitarian Assistance Medicine (CDHAM), department of Military and Emergency Medicine (MIM), Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS). Nutritional assessment and training will be provided to each of the jurisdictions over a three year period, 2003-2005 as part of HLPI activities.
